Plans for new SHS, Sinister Locals albums
From Nathan:
Hi everyone. Just an update. The release of a Fruits De Mer compilation of Soft Hearted Scientists material is a lovely compliment which we hugely appreciate. But personally it underlines the need for a new SHS album which we began in January but has come to a halt because of Covid.
It may be that we cannot resume studio recording until January absolute earliest or even summer 2021 meaning a 2022 release. I find this INCREDIBLY frustrating.
However I hope to be releasing the 4th Sinister Locals album before Christmas as this is home recorded. The only positive side effect of Covid has been the ridiculous amount of writing new material I have done.
Seriously, Sinister Locals 5 is mainly written as is the SHS album and more SHS material for after that. So I just want to put the record straight in case you think we are coasting on “past glories”. I care about that kind of thing.
And I recorded 2 new songs last night. And every Saturday night. Or else I’m not allowed to open a bottle of wine. I ain’t kidding. It’s the law. Thanks for listening. Nathan Hall.
New single from Soft Hearted Scientists
New music – a vinyl single – is coming in July from Soft Hearted Scientists.
Here’s what label Fruits de Mer has to say:
“The Welsh cardiologically-inclined alchemists returned to the studio earlier this year after a lengthy break to record a cover for a year-end Fruits de Mer retrospective that we’re still working on – but the result was so strong I felt it deserved a single release in its own right and the band had such a good time they decided to work on a new song to go with it.
“So here we have The Bee Gees’ ‘Please Read Me’, a 60s pop-psych gem from the brothers Gibb with not the faintest whiff of cheese to it is given a magical makeover, paired with an all-new SHS song, ‘Moths Mistook Us For The Moon’, that’s just lovely and has that classic Soft Hearted Scientists sound.”

Coming next summer…
From Nathan
Spent yesterday afternoon and evening mixing the epic Soft Hearted Scientists cover version of “Please Read Me” by the Bee Gees. Only the second cover we have ever done and the intention was to take the very modest original into the stratosphere or else what’s the point?
It’s a beast of two halves – the first half being a radio friendly single which then morphs into a floating cosmic soundscape that stretches to 6 and a half minutes. No way we could compete with the Bee Gees vocals so we didn’t try and instead wove lots of little instrumental and electronic textures into the mix like mischievous sonic elves.
Should be available on the Fruits de mer label next summer.

Together with “Crystal Coves” this is the new sort of nautically themed in a metaphorical way double A side single taken from the album “Golden Omens”.
